It’s easy to see why Palm Springs and La Jolla picked as best vacation cities. Palm Springs is quite close to Los Angeles in California. It is just 100 miles to the east and is situated in the shadow of the Santa Rosa Mountain range. This has a great effect on the climate here as it is very warm and dry and has much more sun than Los Angeles. It used to be famous for having natural hot springs, but is now very famous for its golf courses.
Many years ago it used to be the weekend retreat for Hollywood film stars. Many of them had palatial vacation homes here, and some of these are still standing. You will find a lot of the streets have been named after famous inhabitants including Frank Sinatra, and Bob Hope.
It is now a lot bigger than those early beginnings, and there are several towns joined together. The communities round here tend to be quite exclusive, and this is clear to see new drive past all the palatial homes and well manicured golf courses. There are also lots of exclusive shops and fine dining restaurants.
Access to Palm Springs is pretty easy, as visitors may choose to fly in to the airport at Los Angeles, or to the airport in town. There is also a Greyhound bus service. At one time this place was vacation choice of the elderly and rich. That has all changed now as it is attracting a much younger clientele consisting of well-off professionals from nearby cities.
La Jolla is Spanish for the jewel. Its just 15 min outside of San Diego. It has glorious beaches and lots to see and do. It has quite a European feel to it, with a Californian touch. It is a very affluent community but feels down to earth.
It’s a wonderful place to visit if you enjoy watersports. There are lots of opportunities for surfing, and also for boating, kayaking and fishing. Nearby reefs and caves are great for snorkelers and scuba divers. It enjoys good weather all the year round making it an excellent place for a spot of golf.
The friendly residents here welcome people to their beautiful resort. The surrounding area is full of stunning scenery. The area has attracted some very famous institutions such as the Stephen Birch aquarium and Museum, and the Scripps institution of oceanography.
